12 Volt Replacement for the 6C4

All tubes but one can be swapped out for 12 volt filament equivalents except for the 6C4. In an effort to make it relatively easy to switch this radio back to 6 volt if needed I decided to make a tube adapter to use a 12AU7 to replace the 6C4. Since the 12AU7 is a dual triode one half is not connected.

Vibrator Fun

Although the radio came with a solid state vibrator it was 6 volt and positive ground, not usable in this case since this radio is being modified to operate on 12 volt negative ground. So I found in my stash a similar sized vibrator with the correct pin configuration and stuffed it with Aurora Design VBN-1 solid state vibrator.

Speaker

There are these options when dealing with a vintage speaker:

1. Speaker OK to continue on
2. Speaker needs some work (repair cone...)
3. Speaker needs a re-cone
    a. Re-cone speaker
    b. Replace speaker

The speaker in this radio fell between #2 and #3. It has a warped cone causing the voice coil to rub on the armature. I decided, because this speaker is a fairly common size of 6" x 9" to go ahead and replace it. I found an NOS Radio shack speaker on Ebay that had one little tear in the cone that was easily repaired.
